Meet A Writer Monday Presents...

...Laura Lee McKellips

1. Tell me about your book
Lily and where you got your inspiration for it?

Lily was originally called The Event Specialist. I renamed the book and split it into a duet about sorority sisters. Courtney is the first book in the duet. Lily came to me when I was driving home one day and Kenny Loggins’ Danger Zone came on. I pictured Lily and Eric (my main couple) dancing to the song. It wasn’t a normal dance since they were bickering. The story bloomed from there with Lily planning Eric’s sister’s (Courtney) wedding.

2. Why did you want to write this book?

Lily is such a sassy character. Eric is overprotective. I wanted to see how these two came together for the wedding.

3. If you were asked to review a fellow author/friends book would you be honest?

Yes, because I know how effective a review can be for an author.

4. What do you plan to do next?

I’m working on my 5th book. It is post-Civil War set in my hometown, which is close to Shiloh Battlefield.

5. How do you motivate yourself to keep writing?

I keep a notebook with me and write scenes as they come to me. It helps when I sit down in front of my computer. It helps when I don’t feel like writing because I know I need to type up the new scene.

6. What was the last picture you took with your phone?

A headband with red and white roses hot glued on it. The headband is for a Queen of Hearts birthday party.

7. What is your perfect pizza?

Cheese! I don’t like anything else on my pizza.

8. Ugly and live forever or attractive and die within a year?

Ugly, because think of what I would see especially if I lived forever.

9. If you could spend the day with any character from fiction who would it be?

Rhett

10. Which of the four seasons do you like the most?

Summer, I hate being cold.

11. Why did you choose to be a writer?

I had a story to tell that I wanted others to read.

12. How would your friends describe you?

Sweet, funny, and talks too much

13. What was the last book you read without skipping through anything?

Misconduct by Penelope Douglas

14. Where is your favourite place to go on a weekday afternoon when you have no plans or obligations?

Shiloh National Military Park, it’s my happy place

15. If you were forced to open a bakery, what would you name it?

Mellark Bakery, a tribute to one of my favorite bakers.
