Meet A Writer Monday Presents...

... Christa Yelich-Koth

1. Tell me about your book, Illusion, and where you got your inspiration for it?

Illusion is about making life choices—and wondering if you need to know your past to choose wisely for your future.

I had this idea of a woman (Daith Tocc) trapped in a windowless room with no memory of herself. What would she do? How would she react? And what would she think when a looming figure finally opens the door? This inspired me to write the scene, and then to know what happened next, I had to keep writing.

2. If your book was made into a film, who would you like to see play the lead?

I’d definitely choose Kristin Kreuk for Daith, David Tennant for Commander Trey Xiven (the antagonist) and Jamie Dornan for Doctor Dru Xiven, Trey’s brother.

3. If you could have one meal for the rest of your life what would it be?

Hands down, mac & cheese!

4. Which do you use more often, dictionary or thesaurus?

Definitely thesaurus. There’s always a specific word I mean and having a thesaurus means I’ll make sure I use the right word.

5. Mountains or the beach?

The beach. Absolutely. I love the water.

6. What motivates you to succeed as a writer?

I love to read stories. So I want to bring that joy to other readers. To do that, I need to get my books into reader’s hands. And to do that, my books need to be successful.

7. What makes you cry?

Pick a card, any card. Haha! I cry at a lot of things, happy, sad, moving, inspirational, upsetting, and beautiful. I feel a lot of the world. I think it provides me with a sense of compassion and empathy and though I go through a lot of Kleenex sometimes, I love that I can connect to the world around me.

8. Do you think the cover plays an important part in the buying process?

I do. I think covers that look make-shift or slapped together tends to lead readers to the opinion that the insides will match. It can really turn away potential sales.

9. Do you think giving away books for free works and why?

Yes, in certain cases. I think ARC’s for reviewers is great. I think promoting book one in a series as a free book to get reader’s interested is smart, but only if you have the other books ready to be purchased.

10. Have you written any other books that are not published? Do you intend to publish them?

Yes and yes. I have a science fiction thriller coming out this fall from Buzz & Roar Publishing called Coiled Vengeance, a YA fantasy novel called The Jade Castle, a YA science fiction thriller title TBD, and a detective novel set in Boston called Spider’s Truth. I purposefully had several books ready so that I could consistently publish things to keep my reader’s interested.

11. Anything you would like to say to your readers and fans?

I hope you love my books as much as I’ve loved writing them. I hope you ask me questions about them, want to know more, want more from me, and let me know you like them. Review them and tell others about them. And of course, thank you so much for all your support!

Daith's father is dead. His death caused a rip in the galaxy's peace. The remains of his army are fighting to restore it.

But Daith knows nothing of this. Her memories have been stolen. She has been kidnapped. All she knows is she has unparalleled abilities that could help end the devastation. Except without her past, how can she know if she's on the right side?

Time is running out and Daith must choose: to search for who she was or use her gifts to restore order.
