Meet a Writer Monday Presents...

... Chris Mason

1. Tell me about your book The Great Works: A Coloring Book  and where you got your inspiration for it?

The inspiration was simple I love classic art especially the Renaissance and no one had done a coloring book on the subject as far as I was aware. So I thought this would be a good coloring book to do. Especially as it's probably my last. I thought why not go out with bang.

2. What is the most influential book you’ve read in the last year?

Why Authors Fail: 17 Mistakes Self Publishing Authors Make That Sabotage Their Success (And How To Fix Them).

3. What are the top three books in you TBR pile?

1) Theft  by Chocolate
2) Coffee is Murder
3) The Coffee Smuggler

4. Have you ever been pulled over by a cop?

5. What is the longest you’ve gone without writing?

The longest I have gone without writing is a month.

6. Mountains or the beach?

I am definitely more interested in the mountains than the beach.

7. What do you think Victoria’s secret is?

How to keep men in the store long enough to make a purchase  without making them feel like perverts.

8. How important to you view maintaining your twitter account?

Not really important  to me. Though I am there and I do respond to tweets, I am still figuring Twitter out.

9. What is your best childhood memory?

Getting my first dog when I was eight years old.

10. What was your most defining moment in life?

When I was 5 years old I had a surgery called a Derotational osteotomy. It basically means the doctors cut into my legs and feet, removed, rotated and replaced bones and muscles in my legs and feet.

11. If you could get away with a crime, would you? If yes, what would it be?

No, eventually karma would bite me in the ass.

12. In what ways do you hold yourself back?

People say I have a perfectionist streak. This may be true as it took my five years to write Tutor in a Box. Now I try to walk that line between my protectionism and decent professionalism.

13. What makes you cry?

Missing an opportunity that I know I could have capitalized on.

14. If you could have an answer to any question, what would that question be?

What is the cure to the common cold?

15. Do you think the cover plays an important part in the buying process?

Yes, a book's cover conveys professionalism. If the covers eye-catching it makes the buyer stop and hopefully take a closer look at the book.

16. What has your experience been like as a new Indie Author? Bruises, Highlights, and lessons?

The biggest lessons I have learned are these:
1) That many indie authors have serious idol worship of Amazon.
2) The belief that  many indie authors seem to have that social media is the answer to all book marketing and that most indie authors seem to lack a view of the big picture.
3) How lazy the average indie author really is and the belief that they don't have to treat being an author as a real job and put in the hours required.
I  apologize if that seems harsh but this is not a profession for weak.

17. Anything you would like to say to your readers and fans?

You mean all two of them. One from Canada and Singapore. Thank you for buying my books.I hope you enjoyed them.

18. Is there anything I’ve left out that you’d like to talk about?

Just come by and connect with me on social media if my books look interesting. Also I sell shirts and other swag at Zazzle. Check it out at
